What qualifies for this list?
A player must record at least eight in four of the five major NBA
statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
The table covers qualifying performances from the 1985-86 season
forward and preserves the historical NBAHoopsOnline data. Games in
which the official NBA box score was later changed are excluded.
A quadruple-double occurs when a player reaches double figures in
four of the five major statistical categories in the same game.
Only four official quadruple-doubles have been recorded in NBA
history: Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson, Hakeem Olajuwon and
David Robinson.
Many other players have come within one or two rebounds, assists,
steals or blocks of joining that extremely short list. This page
tracks those rare all-around performances using the NBAHoopsOnline
threshold of at least eight in four categories.

Some of the Closest Calls
Clyde Drexler - November 1, 1996:
Drexler finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and
10 steals for Houston against Sacramento. He missed a
quadruple-double by only one assist.
Hakeem Olajuwon - March 3, 1990:
Olajuwon recorded 29 points, 18 rebounds, 9 assists and 11 blocks
against Golden State. One more assist would have given him a
quadruple-double.
Clyde Drexler - January 10, 1986:
Drexler had 26 points, 9 rebounds, 11 assists and 10 steals against
Milwaukee. One additional rebound would have completed the
quadruple-double.
Chris Webber - February 7, 1999:
Webber finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists and 9 blocks
against Vancouver. He was one block and two assists away.
Fat Lever - November 24, 1987:
Lever produced 21 points, 13 rebounds, 14 assists and 8 steals
against New Jersey. He needed only two additional steals to reach
a quadruple-double.
Unusual Near Quadruple-Doubles
Draymond Green - February 10, 2017:
Green produced one of the strangest stat lines in NBA history:
4 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 steals and 5 blocks against
Memphis. He reached double figures in rebounds, assists and steals,
but did not even reach double figures in points.
Tim Duncan - June 15, 2003:
Duncan came close to recording a quadruple-double in the clinching
game of the NBA Finals. He finished with 21 points, 20 rebounds,
10 assists and 8 blocks as San Antonio defeated New Jersey to win
the championship.
Shaquille O'Neal - June 8, 2001:
O'Neal nearly accomplished the feat on the NBA Finals stage as
well, recording 28 points, 20 rebounds, 9 assists and 8 blocks
against Philadelphia.

The fourth official quadruple-double in NBA history belongs to
Nate Thurmond, who recorded 22 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists
and 12 blocks for Chicago against Atlanta on October 18, 1974.
It is not included in the main table because this page's list
begins with the 1985-86 season.
Robertson remains the only NBA player to record an official
quadruple-double using steals as the fourth double-digit category.
Thurmond, Olajuwon and Robinson completed theirs with blocked shots.
Historical Notes
Four official quadruple-doubles:
Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson, Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson
are the only four players officially credited with a
quadruple-double in NBA history.
San Antonio:
The Spurs are the only franchise represented by two different
quadruple-double players. Alvin Robertson accomplished the feat in
1986 and David Robinson followed in 1994.
Clyde Drexler:
Drexler appears three times on this list, including two games in
which he recorded 10 steals. His 1996 performance with Houston
left him just one assist short of a quadruple-double.
Alvin Robertson:
Robertson appears three times. In addition to his official
quadruple-double in 1986, he later recorded two more games in which
he reached at least eight in four major statistical categories.
Hakeem Olajuwon:
Olajuwon appears twice within the same month in 1990. He narrowly
missed a quadruple-double on March 3 before officially recording
one against Milwaukee on March 29.
Defense makes the feat rare:
Points, rebounds and assists are the most common foundation for
these performances. Reaching double figures in either steals or
blocks is what makes a quadruple-double extraordinarily difficult.

About the Data
To qualify for the NBAHoopsOnline list, a player must record at
least eight in four of the five major NBA statistical categories:
points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
The list begins with the 1985-86 NBA season. Earlier performances
are not included in the main table, which is why Nate Thurmond's
1974 quadruple-double appears only in the historical notes.
Performances that were subsequently altered in the official NBA
box score are excluded.
Team abbreviations reflect the franchise represented by the player
at the time of the game. Historical names such as NJN for the New
Jersey Nets and VAN for the Vancouver Grizzlies are retained.
Statistics shown are points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocked
shots. An asterisk identifies an official quadruple-double.
NBA records and historical statistics can occasionally be corrected,
updated or uncovered years after a game was played. If you know of a
qualifying near quadruple-double that is missing from this page, spot
an error in one of the stat lines, or have additional information that
could improve this list, please let me know.
When submitting an update, please include as much information as
possible, such as the player's name, team, opponent, date of the game
and the complete stat line. A link to a box score or another reliable
source is also appreciated when available.
Send corrections, additions and updates to:

Submissions will be reviewed before changes are made to the
NBAHoopsOnline historical records.
