1 steal • 40 minutes • Houston Rockets 120, Milwaukee Bucks 94
On March 29, 1990, Hakeem Olajuwon recorded an official
quadruple-double as the Houston Rockets defeated the Milwaukee Bucks
120-94 at The Summit in Houston.
Olajuwon finished with 18 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists

Olajuwon's Quadruple-Double
A quadruple-double requires a player to reach double figures in
four of the five major statistical categories: points, rebounds,
assists, steals and blocked shots.
Olajuwon reached the mark with 18 points, 16 rebounds,
10 assists and 11 blocks. His 10th assist completed the
quadruple-double, while his 11 blocks were nearly as many as
Milwaukee recorded as a team in steals and blocks combined.
The achievement was especially remarkable because Olajuwon did
not need an unusually long game to reach it. He accumulated the
numbers in 40 minutes of a regulation victory.
26 Days After Missing One by a Single Assist
Olajuwon's quadruple-double came only 26 days after he nearly
recorded one against the Golden State Warriors.
On March 3, 1990, Olajuwon had 29 points, 18 rebounds,
9 assists, 5 steals and 11 blocks in a 129-109 Houston
victory. He finished that game one assist short of a
quadruple-double.
Less than four weeks later, he reached 10 assists against Milwaukee
while again blocking 11 shots, officially completing the rare feat.

Houston's Complete Team Performance

victory. The Rockets jumped ahead 37-21 in the first quarter and
never surrendered the lead.
Otis Thorpe led Houston in scoring with 21 points while adding
seven rebounds and seven assists. Buck Johnson scored 19 points,
Mitchell Wiggins added 14 and Lewis Lloyd scored 12 in only eight

Houston shot 48-for-92 from the field and made five three-pointers.
The Rockets collected 53 rebounds, handed out 35 assists, recorded
10 steals and blocked 13 shots.
Olajuwon was responsible for 11 of Houston's 13 blocks.
Milwaukee's Night

40-for-101 from the field and missing all five of its three-point
attempts.
Alvin Robertson led the Bucks with 18 points and eight assists.
Jay Humphries added 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while
Greg Anderson collected 14 points and 13 rebounds.
The Bucks were outrebounded 53-46 and were outscored 37-21 in the

Why This Game Matters
Quadruple-doubles are among the rarest officially recognized
statistical achievements in NBA history because they require a
player to dominate several completely different areas of the game
at once.
Olajuwon's performance demonstrated the unusual versatility that
defined his career. He was Houston's leading rebounder, leading
passer and dominant shot blocker while also scoring 18 points.
The game is also part of an extraordinary statistical stretch for
Olajuwon. During March 1990 alone, he produced both a 29-point,
18-rebound, 9-assist, 5-steal, 11-block near quadruple-double and
this official 18-point, 16-rebound, 10-assist, 11-block
quadruple-double.
