Olajuwon's 5x5
A 5x5 requires at least five points, five rebounds, five assists, five steals and five blocked shots in the same game. Olajuwon reached all five thresholds with 19 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks.
His defensive numbers were especially notable. Olajuwon accounted for five of Houston's six blocked shots and five of the Rockets' 13 steals.
He also committed only one turnover despite playing 44 of the game's 48 minutes and handling a significant part of Houston's offense.
A Rare 5x5 in a Loss
Unlike many famous statistical performances, Olajuwon's 5x5 did not result in a Houston victory. Dallas controlled the first half, leading 27-20 after the opening quarter and 51-36 at halftime.
Houston responded with a 32-point third quarter to cut into the deficit, but Dallas held on for the 99-92 victory.
Sleepy Floyd led Houston with 22 points, while Olajuwon added 19 and Otis Thorpe scored 18. Olajuwon and Thorpe each collected 13 rebounds.
Dallas was led by Rolando Blackman's 30 points. Rodney McCray produced an impressive all-around performance of his own with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists for a triple-double.
Houston's Defensive Activity
Houston recorded 13 steals and six blocks as a team. Olajuwon was responsible for five steals and five blocks, while Sleepy Floyd added four steals.
Dallas overcame that defensive pressure with efficient shooting. The Mavericks made 39 of 77 field-goal attempts, while Houston finished 35-for-85 and made only one of 14 three-point attempts.
